JACKSON, Miss.--No. 27 Millsaps College held No. 20 Birmingham-Southern to just two hits on the night as the Majors defeated the Panthers 7-0 at Twenty Field in Jackson, Miss.
Millsaps moves to 24-8 overall and 13-3 in the Southern Athletic Association; BSC falls to 25-9 and 14-2 in league play. The loss snaps a nine-game win streak by the Panthers, whose last loss was to Hendrix on March 23.
Majors pitcher Will Edwards threw all nine innings to move to 6-1 on the year, striking out 12 Panther batters in the complete game shutout.
Millsaps scored three times in the bottom of the first, and then four times in the bottom of the seventh. BSC committed two errors in the game.
Sophomore Blake Stevens started on the mound for the Panthers and threw six innings, taking the loss and falling to 3-1. He allowed six hits and three earned runs with three walks and three strikeouts. Freshman Wilson Jamison, junior Evan Grovenstein, and sophomore David Bourbonnais split time among the final two innings.
The three-game series continues with games tomorrow and Sunday at 1 p.m.
