Baseball advances to SAA championship series next weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The Birmingham-Southern baseball team will advance to next weekend's Southern Athletic Association Championship series.

Today's game against Rhodes was called early due to rain and lightning in the Birmingham area. BSC was ahead 7-2 in the bottom of the fifth when the game went into a rain delay, but it was ultimately canceled after multiple lightning delays. Since Birmingham-Southern was the only undefeated team, the Panthers will advance to next weekend's best-of-three series, May 4-6, to determine the SAA champion.

BSC has a chance to host the series, depending on the outcome of the Millsaps-Hendrix game this afternoon. As the top seed, if the Majors win, they will host. If Hendrix wins, the second-seeded Panthers will host the Warriors.

Stay tuned to for more information later this evening.
