BIRMINGHAM, Ala.–Former Birmingham-Southern baseball standout Bruce Maxwell has been selected as the starting catcher in the Midwest League's 49th annual All-Star Game. The Mid-Summer Classic is scheduled for June 18, 2013, at Fifth Third Field in Dayton, Ohio.
Maxwell, who plays for the Beloit Snappers out of Beloit, Wis., will serve as the Western Division's starting backstop after developing into one of the MWL's most consistent hitters over the past two months. He leads all catchers in the Midwest League with a .303 batting average, and has a team-high .372 on-base percentage.
Maxwell entered the season as the Oakland Athletics' No. 15 prospect after being selected in the second round of the 2012 draft. He was taken as the 62nd overall pick, BSC's highest-ever draft selection.
