BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Junior hurler Blake Stevens added yet another honor to his resume this week as he was voted South Region Pitcher of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Stevens and senior pitcher Miles Nordgren also earned First-Team honors, while junior pitcher/infielder David Bourbonnais and junior catcher Jacob Mayfield were named Third-Team All-Region.

Stevens (Atlanta, Ga.) was also named South Region Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-Region by earlier this week, and was the 2014 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-Conference selection. He leads the SAA and is 17th in the nation in strikeouts (79), and ranks second in the SAA and sixth in the nation in ERA (1.06). Stevens was also named BSC Male Athlete of the Year and made the SAA All-Tournament Team.

Nordgren (Gadsden, Ala.) earned First-Team All-Region and First-Team All-SAA honors this year as well. He was fourth in the conference in strikeouts (67) and innings pitched (86.1). Nordgren was also named BSC Man of the Year and SAA All-Tournament.

Bourbonnais (Atlanta, Ga.) was a dual threat for BSC as a pitcher and infielder as well as a hitter, earning First-Team All-Region and Second-Team All-SAA honors. On the mound, he led the SAA with five saves as the Panthers' primary closer, and was 10th in the league with 39 strikeouts. Bourbonnais was also third in the SAA with 322 putouts, playing mostly first base for BSC, and he had a .272 batting average with 37 hits including five doubles and a triple.

Mayfield (Gadsden, Ala.) was voted Third-Team All-Region as well as First-Team All-SAA. He led the conference with 27 walks while ranking second in doubles (16), home runs (6), total bases (99), and slugging percentage (.569), and he was third with a .447 on-base percentage, fourth in runners caught stealing (10), and fifth in putouts (282) and hits (61). Mayfield was ninth in the SAA with a .351 batting average, and was named SAA Tournament MVP.

Mayfield, Nordgren, and Stevens were all also named to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District Team.

BSC captured the SAA regular season and tournament championships this year, earning the third seed at the NCAA South Regional last week in Demorest, Ga. The Panthers lost two straight extra-inning games, both by one run, to be eliminated, ending the season with a 35-12 record.
