BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern's Miles Nordgren was selected by the Minnesota Twins on Saturday in the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, becoming BSC's third player in the last four seasons to be selected.

He was taken as the 680th overall pick after a stellar senior season in 2014, in which he earned All-America and All-Region accolades from both D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings. Nordgren also earned First-Team All-Southern Athletic Association and SAA All-Tournament honors after helping the Panthers win the SAA regular season and tournament titles.

Nordgren, who recently graduated from BSC with a mathematics degree, is a native of Gadsden, Ala. He was named 2014 BSC Man of the Year, and was also voted 2013 SAA Pitcher of the Year last season. This past year he went 8-2 on the mound with a 1.37 earned run average in 14 appearances including 11 starts.

Nordgren follows in the footsteps of a long line of BSC players to be drafted, including most recently Bruce Maxwell, who was drafted by the Oakland A's in the second round of the 2012 draft, and Drew Leachman, who was also selected by the Twins in 2011.
