BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—In the home regular season finale for the No. 7 Birmingham-Southern baseball team, the Panthers defeated LaGrange College 8-5 Tuesday evening at Striplin Field.

BSC moved to 27-7-1, while LaGrange dropped to 13-20.

After pulling out to a 4-0 lead after the first two innings, BSC saw LaGrange come back to score twice in the top of the third and then once in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 4-3. BSC extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth, though, scoring four to go up 8-3. LaGrange managed to put up two more runs in the top of the seventh, but no more after that point.

BSC had 15 hits, led by junior Matt Brown who was 4-5 at the plate. Sophomore Zach Wingate was 3-4 with a game-high four RBIs, and junior Taylor McCracken was 3-5 at the plate.

The BSC pitching staff held LaGrange to just four hits while striking out seven. Senior starter Paul Caudill picked up the win to move to 5-0, and junior Miller Bonds got his first save of the year.

The Panthers wrap up the regular season on the road this weekend, traveling to Conway, Ark., to face Hendrix in a three-game series. BSC's performance, along with the results of the Millsaps-Rhodes series this weekend, will determine the seedings of next weekend's Southern Athletic Association Championship. The top two seeds will host a four-team double-elimination format tournament, followed by the two winners facing off in a three-game title series at a later date.
