Stevens named ABCA/Rawlings First-Team All-America, Roberts earns Gold Glove honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Pitcher Blake Stevens has been named First-Team All-America by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Rawlings, and sophomore Sam Roberts was named to the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team, the organization announced this evening.

Stevens, a recent graduate from Atlanta, Ga., was named Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-America on Wednesday, and was also voted South Region Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-Region by and ABCA/Rawlings, honors he also received last season as a junior. He repeated as the Southern Athletic Association Pitcher of the Year and a First-Team All-Conference selection. Stevens ranked second in the nation this year in strikeouts with 108, and was fourth in the SAA with a 1.70 ERA. He was named BSC Male Athlete of the Year and was a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.

Roberts, an outfielder from Johns Creek, Ga., earned a spot on the Gold Glove Team. According to the ABCA, "All Gold Glove Award recipients distinguished themselves as the best defensive players at their respective positions throughout the course of the season." Roberts was named Honorable Mention All-Conference this season, hitting .328 with a .991 fielding percentage, committing only one error in 50 games played with 98 putouts and nine assists.

The Panthers went 37-12-1 this season and won their second straight SAA regular season title, also earning an at-large bid to the NCAA South Regional for their third postseason appearance in four years. BSC, who was ranked as high as fourth in the nation this season, advanced to the title game of the NCAA Regional, falling to Emory this past Saturday.
