BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 5 Birmingham-Southern baseball team used a grand slam and solo homer to help catapult them to a 13-5 win over Concordia (Texas) in their home opener Friday evening. The Panthers improve to 4-1 on the year with the win.
Tyler Wise (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS) hit a grand slam to left in the bottom of the eighth to put the game out of reach for the Tornados. Jack Rhodes (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell) hit the solo bomb out of the park to right field in the sixth.
Wise went 3-for-5 with five RBI and one run. Jacob Drescher (Auburn, Ala./Auburn HS) also had three hits on the day. He went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
The Panthers' series against Concordia continues tomorrow at 1 p.m. pending weather.
