No. 5 BSC Tops No. 13 WashU, North Park in Doubleheader

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 5 Birmingham-Southern baseball defeated its first ranked opponent of the season Saturday afternoon in a two-game sweep. The Panthers topped No. 13 Washington University (Mo.) 3-1 and then defeated North Park 14-8 to improve to 7-2 on the year.  


Rich Misischia (Dothan, Ala./Regis HS) went 3-for-5 against WashU to lead the team. Ryan Gaines (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody HS) earned the win after going seven scoreless innings and striking out three.


The Panthers battled tough in the night cap against North Park. The game was tied 6-6 heading into the sixth inning before BSC opened it up.  They plated two in the sixth and five in the seventh to take a 13-6 lead.  North Park got two more across in the eighth, but BSC closed the door with another run and shut them out in the ninth.


David Scott (Atlanta, Ga./Woodward Academy), Jacob Drescher (Auburn, Ala./Auburn HS), and Misischia went 2-for-4 in the win.  Scott finished with a two RBI and a game-high four runs.


The win went to William Buser (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) who came in in the sixth inning.  He went 1.1 innings and allowed just one hit.


The Panthers continue against both teams tomorrow starting at 10:30 a.m. in a rematch against North Park. They follow with a single game against WashU at 1:30 p.m.
