BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 5 Birmingham-Southern baseball defeated its first ranked opponent of the season Saturday afternoon in a two-game sweep. The Panthers topped No. 13 Washington University (Mo.) 3-1 and then defeated North Park 14-8 to improve to 7-2 on the year.
The Panthers battled tough in the night cap against North Park. The game was tied 6-6 heading into the sixth inning before BSC opened it up. They plated two in the sixth and five in the seventh to take a 13-6 lead. North Park got two more across in the eighth, but BSC closed the door with another run and shut them out in the ninth.
The win went to William Buser (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) who came in in the sixth inning. He went 1.1 innings and allowed just one hit.
The Panthers continue against both teams tomorrow starting at 10:30 a.m. in a rematch against North Park. They follow with a single game against WashU at 1:30 p.m.
