BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 4 Birmingham-Southern baseball earned a 5-4 walk-off win against Oglethorpe University Saturday night after an hour and 45 minute rain delay pushed the start time back. BSC (14-3, 3-0 SAA) swept their series against the Stormy Petrels with the win.
Four Panthers had multiple hits on the day, led by Jacob Drescher (Auburn, Ala./Auburn HS) and A.J. Hunt (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School). The pair went 2-for-4 at the plate. Drescher also scored two runs, including the game winner.
Oglethorpe tied the score in the top of the sixth and went ahead in the top of the ninth. David Scott (Atlanta, Ga./Woodward Academy) led off with a single and advanced to second on a single from Drescher.
Scott then stole third and Drescher advanced to second on a passed ball. Tyler Wise (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS) then hit a bomb to deep center field that was caught. Drescher moved to third and Scott came home to tie the game with two outs. The next batter hit a ground ball to the third baseman, but he muffed the throw and Drescher came home to score on the play.
The Panthers remain at home for their next contest. They take on No. 1 Emory University on Wednesday, March 15 in a single game. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
