No. 1 Emory Holds off No. 4 Panthers Rally

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 4 Birmingham-Southern baseball loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday night against No. 1 Emory University, but the Eagles held on for the 4-1 win.  BSC moved to 14-4 with the loss.  Emory is now 16-2 on the year.

Preston White (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) led the team offensively, going 2-for-2. Easton Fuller (Fairhope, Ala./Alexandria HS) received the loss.

Tyler Wise (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS) singled through the left side to lead off the bottom of the ninth.  White walked, but was thrown out on a fielders choice on the next batter that left runners on the corners.  Tyler Hamel (Atlanta, Ga./Alpharetta HS) came in to pinch hit and fought back in the count to earn a walk.

With the bases loaded and one out, Jacob Drescher (Auburn, Ala./Auburn HS) hit a hard ground ball to second that the fielder bobbled looking to make a tag.  Everyone was safe and Wise scored the Panthers lone run.

The next batter grounded into a double play to the pitcher to end the game and the rally.

The Panthers hit the road next.  They face Southern Athletic Association rival Centre College Saturday and Sunday in a two-day series.  First pitch on Saturday is set for 1 p.m. ET.
