BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 2 Birmingham-Southern baseball fell 8-7 to Rhodes College in game two of the Southern Athletic Association championship series Sunday afternoon.  With the win, Rhodes forced a decisive game three.

Sam Roberts (Johns Creek, Ga./Blessed Trinity) led the team offensively.  He finished with a game-high four hits and scored two runs.  Will Toner (Atlanta, Ga./Marist HS) and Rich Misischia (Dothan, Ala./Regis HS) also had multi-hit games.  The pair each finished with two hits, a run, and an RBI.

The Vikings jumped out to an early 5-1 lead.  BSC put one more run across in the fourth, but really rallied in the top of the sixth.

With one out, Toner singled up the middle and Misischia reached on a throwing error.  After David Scott (Atlanta, Ga./Woodward Academy) singled to center to load the bases, Jacob Drescher (Auburn, Ala./Auburn HS) doubled to left center, clearing the bases, and tying the score up at five all.

Preston White (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) then hit a two-run homer down the left field line to push the Panthers into the lead, 7-5.  But Rhodes began a rally of their own, putting up a run in the sixth, two in the seventh, and three in the eighth to take the 11-7 lead going into the ninth.

BSC was able to get one more run across in the ninth, but could not complete the comeback.

The third and final game will begin at approximately 5:40 p.m. to decide which team is the 2017 SAA tournament champion.
