MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Birmingham-Southern baseball team dropped the first of a three-game series at Rhodes College, falling to the Lynx 5-3 on Friday afternoon.
Junior right-hander Jake Cook (Oxford, Ala./Oxford HS) got the start for the Panthers, pitching three innings. Cook surrendered three runs in the third and one run in the fourth before being relieved by Andy Hammond (Oxford, Ala./Oxford HS). Cook picked up the loss to move to 5-3.
Rhodes' fourth run in the fourth inning proved to be crucial as BSC could not get enough bats going to close the gap.
Birmingham-Southern scored two runs in the fifth and one run in the eighth. Third baseman Preston Munns (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) and outfielder Brian Williams (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) had RBIs in the game.
With the loss, the Panthers drop to 15-11 and 6-7 in the Southern Athletic Association. Birmingham-Southern and Rhodes will wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 31.
