BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern baseball team defeated Centre 4-3 in game one of its three-game weekend series against the Colonels on Saturday.
BSC and Centre were tied 1-1 before the Panthers scored two more runs in the third off RBI singles by Tyler Hamel (Atlanta, Ga./Alpharetta HS) and A.J. Hunt (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School).
The Colonels tied it back up 3-3 with a two-run sixth inning, but a go-ahead solo home run launched over the left field wall by Preston Munns (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) put BSC back on top 4-3 with three outs to go.
Left-hander Richie Misischia (Dothan, Ala./Regis HS), who pitched the final inning and two-thirds, picked up the win to move to 3-2 on the mound.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 17-13 overall and 7-9 in the Southern Athletic Association.
Game two of the series, originally scheduled for Saturday, was moved to Sunday morning at 11 a.m. due to rain. Game three will follow after the conclusion of game two. Birmingham-Southern will celebrate its senior class of student-athletes before the start of the doubleheader tomorrow morning.
