LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern baseball team dropped its non-conference road game against Covenant 7-6 on Tuesday night.
The Panthers drew first blood, scoring a run in the top of the first, but Covenant responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. After four innings, the Scots led 4-2.
BSC retook the lead with a four-run fifth inning; however, Covenant once again responded in the bottom half of the inning. The Scots scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the final 7-6 lead.
The Panthers used eight different pitchers in the game, each throwing an inning each. Junior left-hander Vinny Torres (Bronx, N.Y./Mercersburg Academy) ended up on the hook for the loss.
Freshman shortstop Dawson Pfost (Hickory, Flat, Ga./Sequoyah HS) led BSC at the plate. He was 2-for-4 with three RBI.
With the loss, the Panthers fall to 21-15 on the season.
Birmingham-Southern's next game will be on the campus of Berry College against Millsaps in the opening round of the 2018 Southern Athletic Association Tournament. The game is set for a 2:30 p.m. ET first pitch on Thursday, April 19.
