BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Two Birmingham-Southern baseball student-athletes were selected to the D3baseball.com All-South Region Team, the organization announced Monday.
Junior right-hander Jake Cook (Oxford, Ala./Oxford HS) and sophomore second baseman Will Toner (Atlanta, Ga./Marist HS) were the two Panthers picked for the all-region honor, both tabbed for the third team.
Cook was named the 2018 SAA Pitcher of the Year and was BSC's one member of the All-SAA First Team. Cook pitched 66 and two-thirds innings, struck out 49 batters and led the conference with a low 2.56 ERA, ending the season with a 7-3 record on the mound. Cook's seven wins were second most in the conference.
Toner was one of BSC's most prolific offense performers this season, hitting .329 with 10 doubles 36 runs scored, seven home runs – including two grand slams – and 50 RBI. Toner's seven homers were tied for third in the SAA and he was second in the conference in the RBI category.
This was the first D3baseball.com all-region honor for both student-athletes.
