BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 23 Birmingham-Southern baseball team extended its winning streak to 12 on Tuesday night, downing the Eagles of Emory University 8-4 at Striplin Field.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second inning, the Panthers scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning, taking the lead and never looking back.
An A.J. Hunt (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis Univ. School) double, a two-RBI Luke DePiero (Atlanta, Ga./Walker HS) single and a Cole Steadman (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) sacrifice bunt brought in BSC's four runs in the inning.
The Panthers then added single runs in the third and fifth innings, including a solo homer by Brian Williams (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) in the fifth, and brought around two more to reach eight runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
A committee of Panthers saw time on the mound in the BSC win. Adam Richards (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla./South Walton HS) got the start for the home team. Senior Richie Misischia (Dothan, Ala./Regis HS) got the win, pitching three and a third innings, allowing just a single hit while striking out seven of his 14 batters faced.
With the win, Birmingham-Southern improves to 14-4 on the year. After starting the season 2-4, the Panthers have won their last 12, including nine games on the road.
BSC will host Southern Athletic Association foe Rhodes College in its next home game on Saturday, March 16. The Panthers and Lynx will play a doubleheader on Saturday before wrapping up the series with a single game on Sunday, March 17.
