BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern baseball team split its doubleheader against Centre College on Saturday, falling 4-3 in game one before taking game two 7-5.
The Panthers and Colonels battled back and forth during the game. After seven innings the two teams were tied up 3-3, but a solo home run by Centre gave the home side the go-ahead and eventually winning run.
Senior Jake Cook (Oxford, Ala./Oxford HS) got the start on the mound and pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs off five hits.
Birmingham-Southern picked up the 7-5 win in the seven-inning second game.
The Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and added a single run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to earn their seven runs.
Led by Brian Williams (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) three hits, two runs and RBI, five different Panthers had multiple hits.
Senior Richie Misischia (Dothan, Ala./Regis HS) got the start on the mound, allowing four runs—three earned—off five hits. He struck out six batters in the outing and picked up his seventh win of the season.
After Saturday's doubleheader, Birmingham-Southern moved to 24-11 overall and 11-6 in the Southern Athletic Association.
The Panthers and Colonels wrap up the series on Sunday at noon.
