Five Panthers Selected to ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Teams

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Five Birmingham-Southern baseball student-athletes were named to American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-South Region Teams, the organizations announced on Tuesday.

Senior designated Tyler Hamel (Atlanta, Ga./Alpharetta HS) was selected to the All-South Region First Team, while senior first baseman Tyler Wise (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS), senior pitcher Richie Misischia (Dothan, Ala./Regis HS) and senior pitcher John Michael Shirley (Mobile, Ala./UMS-Wright Prep) were named to the Second Team. Sophomore outfielder Cole Steadman (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) rounded out BSC's all-region selections on the Third Team.

Hamel, the team leader in home runs with nine, has been one of BSC's most consistent hitters this season, batting .331 with 42 RBI and 10 doubles. He was also an All-Southern Athletic Association and All-South Region First Team selection.

Wise, who was an All-SAA Second Team first baseman, leads the Panthers in batting average, hits, runs, triples, and RBIs.

Misischia, the SAA Pitcher of the Year, was recently selected to the All-South Region First Team. He is BSC's leader in wins and saves with nine and six, respectively.

Shirley, an All-SAA Second Team selection, holds a record of 6-2 this season with a 3.03 ERA and a team-high 70 strikeouts in 71.1 innings pitched this season.

Steadman, BSC's typical leadoff hitter, is batting .340 at the plate this season and is the team leader in doubles with 12 this season. He was also selected to the All-SAA First Team.

No. 15 Birmingham-Southern will play in the upcoming NCAA Division III World Series in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Panthers open up the World Series against Heidelberg at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday, May 31 at 7:45 p.m. CT.
