Tempers flare in Panthers’ fourth preseason practiceBIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Emotions ran high at the Birmingham-Southern football team’s practice today as the coaching staff challenged both offense and defense to play more aggressively.
“We challenged the defense to get more agressive and they rose to the challenge,” head coach Eddie Garfinkle said after practice. “The offense didn't back down. After tempers flared, a fight occurred during team period. We called the team up and explained, ‘Why fight and penalize your team 15 yards? When the ball is snapped, and until the whistle blows, it is legal to hit the guys in the other colored jerseys as hard as you can.’”
BSC practices again tomorrow at 4 p.m. before its first two-a-day of the season this Friday, with the team going at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. that day.
