Garfinkle pleased with defensive improvement in Wednesday’s practiceBIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Head Coach Eddie Garfinkle said he was pleased with the Birmingham-Southern football team’s practice on Wednesday in the Panthers’ second week of preseason camp.
“We adjusted the schedule and made the decision to practice once today,” Garfinkle said. “We went out in full pads and worked on the ‘Four Down Zone’, and also worked on two end-of-game situations. We put four minutes on the clock and the team with the football had a four point lead trying to run out the clock. When forced to punt, the other team got the ball back with less than two minutes left and tried to score.
“The players had a great attitude and, for the second day in a row, had a very physical practice. They were having fun and competing. The defensive line has made tremendous strides the past two days.”
The Panthers practice in shells tomorrow, Aug. 21, at 4 p.m. at the BSC Athletic Complex. The team opens the 2008 season next Saturday, Aug. 30, traveling to face Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C., at 12 p.m. CT.
