Football wraps up 2009 preseason camp

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern football team wrapped up its 2009 preseason camp on Friday at Panther Stadium with a walk-through practice after scrimmaging on Thursday.

“After grading Thursday's scrimmage, we feel like we have made steady progress during our two-week camp,” Head Coach Eddie Garfinkle said. “We need to be more consistent in our physical play on both sides of the football. One thing that jumped out is that we have a long way to go in the kicking game. Today we lifted weights, had meetings, and a walk-through practice to correct mistakes. The players are off tomorrow.”

The rest of BSC’s student population begins returning to campus this weekend, with freshman orientation taking place on Sunday. The football squad currently has 73 true freshmen on its roster, with 79 newcomers overall, as well as 46 returners from last season.

The Panthers open the 2009 season on the road against LaGrange College, Sept. 5, and are at home on Sept. 12 against Campbell University at noon at Panther Stadium.
