BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern football team is at home this Saturday, Oct. 10, taking on Centre College at noon at Panther Stadium. BSC is 2-2 on the season, and the Colonels are undefeated at 5-0.
BSC is 1-5 all-time against Centre, after losing 25-6 last season in Danville, Ky. The two teams played each other several times in the 1930s as well.
Junior quarterback Joe Thigpen leads the Panthers with 397 yards passing and is 30-58 with two interceptions and three touchdowns on the season. He also has 139 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Junior tailback Walter Arrington leads with 293 yards rushing and five touchdowns, followed by freshman running back Shawn Morris with 288 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Junior wide receiver David Langston has also rushed for three touchdowns. Senior Tay Walker leads the receivers with 105 yards, followed by sophomore Eric Nordgren with 101 yards, and both have caught one touchdown pass each.
Senior linebacker Victor Allen leads the BSC defense with 23 tackles (8 solo, 15 assisted), followed by junior Ryan Carelson with 21 tackles (11 solo, 10 assisted) and sophomore Bryan Jackson, also with 21 tackles (15 solo, 6 assisted).
