Football travels to face Austin College, Saturday
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern football team is on the road for the next two weekends, beginning with a trip to Sherman, Texas, this Saturday to face Austin College at 1 p.m. The game will feature live stats, available here.
BSC is 0-2 against the 'Roos after losing 48-29 last season at home, and 43-17 in 2007 on the road.
The Panthers are 2-3 on the season after a one-point home loss last weekend to Rhodes College. Junior quarterback #Joe Thigpen# leads the offense with 515 passing yards and 163 rushing yards. He is 37-of-77 with four interceptions and three touchdown passes, as well as two touchdowns on the ground. Junior tailback #Walter Arrington# leads the team with 317 yards rushing and five touchdowns on 56 carries, and sophomore wide receiver #Eric Nordgren# leads with 143 yards on seven catches and a touchdown. Senior linebacker #Victor Allen# leads the defense with 28 tackles (10 solo, 18 assisted).
Austin College is 3-2 on the season with wins against Southwest Assemblies of God, McMurry University, and, most recently, Sewanee. Quarterback Andy Braly is 56-of-107 with six interceptions, five touchdowns, and 864 yards passing for the 'Roos. He also has recorded 387 yards rushing with three touchdowns. Ross Hasten leads the team with 427 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 95 carries, and Greg Harrell leads with 354 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 19 catches. Joshua Willis leads the defense with 40 tackles (21 solo, 19 assisted), and Evan Coachman has recorded five interceptions.
