Vote Eddie Garfinkle for Liberty Mutual National Coach of the Year
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—BSC Football Head Coach Eddie Garfinkle, who helped the Panthers turn around a
4-6 season in 2009 to a 6-4 record in 2010 is on the short list for Liberty Mutual National Coach of the Year.
Under the leadership of Garfinkle, the Panthers claimed their first winning season since the programs inception in 2007. Since taking over as head coach in 2008, the program has improved their record each year. BSC improved in every aspect across the board in 2010, finishing near the top of the conference in many statistical categories. The Panthers led the SCAC in scoring offense, rose to third in scoring defense and led the country in rushing offense by a significant margin at 254 yards per game, which would have ranked 11th in the NCAA.
BSC intercepted a conference-high 24 passes, while boasting a turnover margin of +18. Out of BSC's four losses, each was by less than eleven points.
For their work, ten Panthers were named to the All-SCAC team last week. That included three on the First Team, two on the Second Team and five made Honorable Mention.
Fan voting for the award ends on December 4th, when the top 15 coaches will enter an "Evaluation Phase" before going through a final voting process. The winner will be announced in early January. You can vote by clicking here.
