BSC Athletics in full swing this weekend
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - An array of Panther teams will kick off their season this weekend, as football, volleyball and men's soccer will all be hosting home events.
On Saturday, the Panther Volleyball team welcomes in seven teams to the BSC Hilltop Classic. Rhodes College, Mississippi College, Berry College, Rust College, Huntingdon College, Piedmont College as well as Sewanee will join in on the season opening tournament in Birmingham.
BSC will take on Mississippi College Saturday at 12 pm to kickoff the Classic, while also facing Berry College in the 7:30 pm nightcap. On Sunday, the Panther Volleyball team squares off with Piedmont at 12:30 pm and Huntingdon at 5:30 pm. Each BSC game will take place in Bill Battle Coliseum, while other tournament games with be held in Bill Burch Gymnasium as well.
After opening up with a 2-1 win over Mississippi College last night, the men's soccer team is back in action again Saturday in the Birmingham-Southern Jim 'n Nick's/PUMA Labor Day Classic. Sewanee, Fontbonne University and Washington University will all take part in the tourney. The Panthers take on Washington on Saturday at 7:30 pm and Fonbonne on Sunday at 1:30 pm.
On the women's side, after taking down in-state Huntingdon 2-0 on Wednesday, the Panthers will travel to Maryville, Tennessee where they will take part in the Maryville College tournament on Sunday and Monday. BSC will play Greensboro college at 4 pm on Sunday, and the host team, Maryville, at 1 pm Monday.
Capping off the weekend action, it's once again football time on the Hilltop. Head Coach Eddie Garfinkle will lead the BSC Panthers against LaGrange College in Saturday's season opener. BSC dropped a heartbreaker at LaGrange last season, 30-27. Kickoff is slated for 1 pm.
