Morris, Laughlin named SCAC Players-of-the-Week
Morris (Pensacola, Fla.) was named Offensive Player-of-the-Week. He had a record-setting day Saturday, rushing for a school-record 202 yards with three touchdowns. He averaged 20.2 yards per carry, with a long run of 76 yards.
With this weekend's performance, Morris has rushed for 729 yards in the Panthers' first five games – the third-highest total after five games by any conference running back in the SCAC era (1991-present). Millsaps College's Kelvin Gladney has the top two marks as he rushed for 761 yards in the first five games of the 1993 season and – during his record-breaking season of 1994 when he set the league's single-season rushing mark with 1,882 yards – had 923 yards after the Majors' first five games.
Laughlin (Fort Payne, Ala.) was named Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. He was perfect Saturday in the Panthers' 34-10 win at Austin College, going 2-for-2 on field goals (26-yarder and 30-yarder) and 4-for-4 on extra points to total 10 points in the game. The field goals against Austin College were the first two field goals of the season for Laughlin.
