SUWANEE, Ga.—Juniors Shawn Morris and Jeffery Steele have been selected the SCAC Football Offensive and Defensive Players-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, November 12, the league office announced today.
Morris, a 5-8 192-pound tailback from Pensacole, Fla., ran for a school and SCAC-record 332 yards rushing in the Panthers' 35-21 win over Millsaps. The performance marks just the third 300+ yard rushing game by a SCAC back in league history and shatters the former single-game mark of 305 posted by Jeremy Boyce of Trinity University in a Nov. 3, 2001 contest against Sewanee. Morris now owns BSC's top three rushing games, all coming this season. Morris also scored three touchdowns on the afternoon on runs of 41, 45, and 20 yards. He ends the season as league's leading rusher and scorer. Morris ran for 1,449 yards rushing (third-highest single-season total in SCAC history) and 17 touchdowns on the season.
Steele, a 5-10 174-pound cornerback from Chalkville, Ala., led the BSC defense against Millsaps on Saturday, recording 12 total tackles (seven solo), including one tackle-for-loss. He also recorded an interception and a pass break-up and helped the Panthers hold the Majors to only 97 yards rushing.
