Football holds first full day of preseason camp

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern football team had 115 players report this past weekend and held its first full day of preseason camp today in Panther Stadium.

The team had its first practice Sunday afternoon, then two practices today. The returning varsity members practiced this morning, and the freshmen took the field in the afternoon.

"Although it’s still early, overall I’m pleased with the first two days," Head Coach Eddie Garfinkle said. "On offense, quarterback Jimmy Stainback and wide receiver Tyler Johnson stood out and had good practices. On defense, linebackers Dustin Massey and Andrew Armour had a good showing."

The Panthers will hold an inter-squad scrimmage this Saturday at 9 a.m. in Panther Stadium, and open the 2011 season on the road, Sept. 3 at LaGrange College. BSC’s first home game is against in-state rival Huntingdon College on Sept. 10 at 1 p.m.
