Football looks for more consistency in preseason camp

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern football team had its second practice today in shorts and shoulder pads, gearing up for Thursday afternoon's practice, which will be the first full-pads practice of the preseason.

Head Coach Eddie Garfinkle was not as impressed with today's showing. "The biggest thing that stood out is that we were very inconsistent on both sides of the ball," Garfinkle said. "Being more consistent is one of the things we have set out to really improve on and today shows we still have a long way to go.

"Our running back position looks pretty solid," Garfinkle continued. "Trying to replace four-year starter Walter Arrington is a concern, but junior Shawn Morris, who rotated with Walter over the past two years, looks really good. Joe Moultrie and Christian Willis are battling for the back-up position and both have a lot of speed."

The Panthers will begin official two-a-days tomorrow, and will hold their annual preseason scrimmage on Saturday at 9 a.m. in Panther Stadium.
