BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern football team held an inter-squad scrimmage and its annual Family Day luncheon on Saturday in Panther Stadium.
Head Coach Eddie Garfinkle thinks that the team still has a long way to go to be ready to compete, but is confident that the team will improve. "We are not close to being able to compete in a full game," Garfinkle said. "We need to be more physical on both sides of the ball. But as long as our players continue to bring a great attitude and keep working, we will get better.
"On the offensive side of the ball, players who stood out today were sophomore running back Joe Moultrie from Huffman High School, sophomore fullback Matt Hansard, and sophomore wide receiver Tyler Johnson. On defense, freshman safety Ty Keenum, from Decatur, has been impressive this first week of camp."
The Panthers continue two-a-days on Monday with a full-pads practice in the morning and a practice in shells in the afternoon, in preparation for the first game of the season against LaGrange on the road, Sept. 3.
