BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern football team has been picked 23rd in Lindy's Sports Top 25 rankings, and rising senior Shawn Morris has been named Preseason Most Valuable Player by the magazine.
The Panthers were picked one spot ahead of former SCAC rival Trinity University. Last year's national runner-up Mt. Union was picked first in the nation, followed by No. 2 Wesley, who the Panthers will face on Oct. 6 in Dover, Del. Defending national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater was picked third.
BSC went 7-2 last season, getting the most wins since the program's reinstatement in 2007. Morris was named First-Team All-America by D3football.com and Second-Team Little All-America by the Associated Press. He was also D3football.com All-South Region, SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year, and First-Team All-SCAC.
