Panthers hold first full-squad practice of 2012 preseason
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern football team held its first full-squad practice - both veterans and newcomers together - today at Panther Stadium on day four of the 2012 preseason. The Panthers will hold their first full-pads practice tomorrow at 4 p.m.
"Today was our fourth practice and second day in shorts and shoulder pads, before going into full pads tomorrow," Head Coach Eddie Garfinkle said. "This was our first full-squad practice with all 130 players, 73 veterans and 57 freshmen. By practicing the freshmen separate from the veterans up until today, we have already found some young guys that might help us going forward. Freshman tailback Teddre Williams and freshman offensive lineman Jacob Miller stood out in practice today.
"I also thought our veteran offensive players have done a good job adjusting to a our new offense. Our starting defense has nine seniors; we are depending on them to carry us early until we adjust offensively."
The Panthers open the 2012 season at home on Sept. 1, hosting LaGrange College at 1 p.m.
