Football moves to 18th in latest rankings

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern football team has moved up from 24th to 18th in the latest Top 25.

The Panthers are 2-0 on the season after defeating LaGrange at home on Sept. 1 and beating Huntingdon on the road this past Saturday.

Senior quarterback Jimmy Stainback leads with 430 passing yards so far and four touchdown passes, and senior tailback Shawn Morris leads with 189 yards rushing, followed closely by junior tailback Joseph Moultrie with 188. Both backs also have scored three touchdowns. Sophomore wide receiver Sam Vermilyea leads with 128 yards and two touchdown catches. Senior safety Andrew Shannon leads the defense with 15 tackles (nine solo, six assisted).

BSC returns home this weekend to face Ave Maria University at noon on Saturday in Panther Stadium.

Fellow Southern Athletic Association member Centre College entered the rankings this week at 23rd. The Panthers will face the Colonels on the road on Nov. 3.
