Panthers to face Sewanee, Saturday, in last home game of 2012

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern football team is at home one final time this Saturday, Oct. 20, taking on Sewanee at 1 p.m. for Homecoming and Senior Day 2012 in Panther Stadium.

BSC is 5-2 on the season, having dropped its last two games to No. 6 Wesley on the road, Oct. 6, and Trinity University at home, Oct. 13. The Panthers were ranked as high as 11th this year but dropped out of the rankings this week. BSC also has a 1-0 mark in the Southern Athletic Association.

Sewanee is 2-5 on the year and 0-2 against SAA opponents. Saturday will mark the sixth meeting between the programs in the BSC modern football era, with the Panthers holding a 5-0 record against the Tigers. The two teams also played in 1922, with Sewanee winning 21-0. Sewanee went on to become a founding member of the Southeastern Conference 10 years later.

Senior quarterback Jimmy Stainback leads the Panthers with 1,184 passing yards and 11 touchdowns. He is 68-102 with five interceptions. Junior tailback Joseph Moultrie leads with nine rushing touchdowns; he has 443 yards on 56 carries. Senior tailback Shawn Morris leads with 480 rushing yards on 88 carries, and has recorded five touchdowns. Sophomore wide receiver Sam Vermilyea leads with 430 yards and six touchdown catches. On defense, senior safety Andrew Shannon leads the way with 50 tackles (28 solo). Senior Jeffery Steele and sophomore Ty Keenum have recorded two interceptions apiece, and senior Cory Corcoran leads with 2.5 sacks.

Junior quarterback Curtis Johnson leads Sewanee with 169 yards passing and one touchdown. Freshman quarterback Cody Daniel also has a touchdown. Johnson also leads the rushing effort with 496 yards and six touchdowns on 128 carries. Senior running back Jase Brooks also has five touchdowns, as well as a touchdown catch. Senior J.D. Crabtree leads the defense with 51 tackles (23 solo). He, senior Murphy Walters, and sophomore De'Nard Ford have two interceptions apiece, and senior John Philip Boudreaux has four sacks.

Saturday's game will feature live video streaming at collegetvticket.com and a live game tracker at bscsports.net. The Panthers are off next week before taking on conference rivals Centre, Nov. 3, and Millsaps, Nov. 10, both on the road.
