Shannon, Stainback earn SAA Football Player of the Week honors

ATLANTA, Ga.—Seniors Andrew Shannon and Jimmy Stainback have been named Southern Athletic Association Football Players of the Week, the league office announced today.

Stainback, a quarterback from Roswell, Ga., was named Offensive Player of the Week. He threw for 313 yards against Centre on Saturday, helping the Panthers defeat the Colonels for the first time in program history. Stainback was 11-15 with three touchdowns and no interceptions to lead the Panthers to a convincing 45-14 victory. The 313 passing yards was a season-high for Birmingham-Southern.

Shannon, a safety from Trussville, Ala., recorded seven tackles – all solo – including one tackle-for-loss against Centre on Saturday in Danville, Ky. He also had an interception and two pass-breakups to help the Panthers to their 45-14 win.

The Panthers are in action for the final game of the 2012 season this Saturday, traveling to face Millsaps at 1 p.m. for the SAA title.
