Football travels to take on Millsaps, Saturday, for share of SAA title

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern wraps up the regular season this Saturday, Nov. 10, as it travels to face Millsaps for a share of the Southern Athletic Association title. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. in Jackson, Miss.

The Panthers are 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the SAA, while the Majors are 7-2 overall and 3-0 in league play. Conference champions are determined by record only, so if BSC wins on Saturday, both teams will be crowned SAA champions with records of 3-1.

BSC is 1-4 all-time against Millsaps after defeating the Majors for the first time last season at home in Panther Stadium, 35-21.

Senior quarterback Jimmy Stainback leads the Panther offense with 1,646 passing yards and 14 touchdowns. This past week he was named SAA Offensive Player of the Week after helping BSC defeat Centre on Saturday, 45-14. Senior tailback Shawn Morris leads the rushing effort with 771 yards and seven touchdowns, while junior tailback Joseph Moultrie has 546 yards and 11 touchdowns. Sophomore wide receiver Sam Vermilyea leads with 483 yards and six touchdowns.

On defense, senior safety Andrew Shannon leads with 67 tackles. He was named SAA Defensive Player of the Week this past Monday for his performance in the game against Centre on Saturday. Shannon, senior Jeffery Steele, and sophomore Ty Keenum all have two interceptions apiece; seniors Nick Gordon and Zack Lambert lead with three sacks each.

Millsaps is led on offense by senior quarterback Garrett Pinciotti with 2,558 yards and 24 touchdowns. Sophomore Mike Barthelemy leads with 794 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, and senior Kegan Joplin leads with 653 yards receiving and eight touchdown catches. Sophomore Zach Bell leads the Majors' defense with 62 tackles, including 13 tackles-for-loss and eight sacks.
