BIRMINGHAM, Ala.–Senior Shawn Morris is getting a chance to make an even bigger name for himself this weekend, traveling to Washington, D.C., for a tryout with the Washington Redskins.
Morris, a running back from Pensacola, Fla., ends his career as BSC's all-time leading rusher with 3,727 yards. He had a stellar tenure as a Panther, earning D3football.com First-Team All-America and Associated Press Second-Team Little All-America honors as a junior. He was First-Team All-Conference the past two seasons, and was SCAC Offensive Player of the Year and BSC Male Athlete of the Year in 2011.
With a solid performance at this weekend's rookie mini-camp, which runs through Sunday, Morris could find himself with a contract to a training camp in the near future.
Morris' family is no stranger to the NFL: his older brother, Alfred, is a running back for the Redskins. He was selected in the sixth round of last year's draft after a career at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla. He earned a starting spot for the Redskins and helped lead them to the NFC playoffs.
