BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—After suffering a tough loss at home last weekend to No. 11 Wesley, the Birmingham-Southern football team looks to rebound this weekend with a trip to take on Sewanee, Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Panthers are 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Southern Athletic Association, while the Tigers are 1-3 overall and 0-0 in the SAA. BSC is 5-1 all-time against Sewanee after suffering the first loss to the Tigers last season on Homecoming, 31-19.
Senior quarterback Tyson Beach is 71-105 with 912 yards and seven touchdowns so far this season, while junior tailback Issac Nichols leads on the ground with 339 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 51 carries. Junior receiver Sam Vermilyea leads with 304 yards and three touchdowns on 12 catches.
For Sewanee, senior quarterback Curtis Johnson is 9-12 with 154 yards and two touchdowns; sophomore Cody Daniel has also seen significant action, and is 11-22 with 120 yards and a touchdown. Most of the Tigers' offense comes on the ground, led by Johnson with three touchdown runs and 197 yards rushing, and sophomore Devante Jones with three touchdowns and 193 yards. Junior Charlie Powell leads with two touchdown catches and 72 yards receiving. Senior Dave McKeithen leads the Tiger defense with 28 tackles (19 solo); he and senior Quentin Jones have four tackles-for-losses apiece to lead the team, including two sacks for McKeithen.
