Football set to host Rhodes for Homecoming and Senior Day

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern will close out its home slate this weekend, hosting Rhodes on Saturday at 1 p.m. for Homecoming and Senior Day 2013.

The Panthers are 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the Southern Athletic Association after a big 42-0 win against Berry on the road last weekend in Rome, Ga. The Lynx are 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the SAA, sitting atop the standings tied with Millsaps. Rhodes' only loss this season was a 10-7 double-overtime heartbreaker to Washington-St. Louis back on Sept. 14. Since then the Lynx have won five straight.

BSC is 4-2 against Rhodes in the modern era of Panther football, having beaten the Lynx the last four years straight.

Senior quarterback Tyson Beacham leads BSC with 1,384 passing yards with 11 touchdowns. On the ground, junior Issac Nichols leads with 478 yards rushing and seven touchdowns, and junior Michael Cowan leads the receivers with 481 yards. Junior wide receiver Sam Vermilyea leads with four touchdown catches. Senior linebacker Cameron Budzius leads the defense with 48 tackles (34 unassisted), and junior Connor Shannon leads with nine tackles-for-loss including seven sacks.

For Rhodes, sophomore quarterback Blake Box leads with 1,163 yards and 14 touchdowns, sophomore running back Kevin Vieira leads with 544 yards, and senior Dane Wilson leads with seven touchdowns on the ground. Sophomore receiver Jonathan Wiener leads with 474 receiving yards, and freshman tight end Charles Schneider leads with five touchdown catches. The Lynx defense is led by sophomore linebacker Michael Shield with 68 tackles (34 unassisted), including 12.5 tackles-for-loss. Sophomore linebacker Spencer Smith leads with 6.5 sacks.

Saturday's game will feature live video via CollegeTVTicket.com with play-by-play by Landrum Roberts, host of the BSC Football Review, as well as a free live game tracker. After this weekend, the Panthers are idle for a week before closing out the season on the road against Centre on Nov. 16.
