BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Panther football team travels to Danville, Ky., this weekend to wrap up the season against Centre, Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Eastern.
BSC is 5-3 heading into the game, while the Colonels are 6-3. The Panthers were idle last weekend but defeated Rhodes on Nov. 2 for Homecoming and Senior Day, 35-34, with a last-second blocked field goal. Centre is coming off a 28-27 overtime loss to Millsaps on the road this past weekend.
Centre holds a 5-1 record against BSC in the modern era, and 5-2 all-time, with the Panthers having beaten the Colonels last season, 45-14 on the road. The previous win was a 20-0 win in 1927, 12 years before BSC ended the football program until it was reinstated in 2007.
Senior quarterback Tyson Beacham leads the Panther offense with 1,650 yards and 14 touchdowns. He is 127-208 with 10 interceptions, and averages over 206 yards per game. Junior tailback Issac Nichols leads the team on the ground with 508 yards rushing and eight touchdowns on 98 carries, and junior Michael Cowan leads the receivers in yardage with 557. Junior receiver Sam Vermilyea leads with five touchdown catches.
On defense, senior Cameron Budzius and junior Austin Hansard lead with 51 tackles apiece, and senior Connor Shannon leads with eight sacks and 11 total tackles-for-loss. Hansard and junior Ty Keenum have three interceptions apiece.
For Centre, junior quarterback Heath Haden is 188-315 for a league-leading 2,300 yards and 11 touchdowns as well as 11 interceptions. Senior running back Harry Meisner leads with 894 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on 188 carries, and senior wide receiver Austin Jones leads with 694 yards and four touchdown catches. Senior defensive back Ben Leahy leads with 68 tackles, and junior Tami Aderoba has a team-high 5.5 sacks and 12 tackles-for-loss.
