Panthers travel to face Huntingdon for Wesley Cup

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern football team will battle in-state rival Huntingdon College Saturday at 6 p.m. at Samford Stadium in Montgomery.

The match-up marks the return of the Wesley Cup game between the two schools; the teams did not play last season due to scheduling conflicts. BSC holds a 3-1 record against the Hawks, with three straight victories including a 45-38 win in 2012 in Montgomery.

The Panthers are 0-1 heading into Saturday's game after a tough 34-28 overtime loss to LaGrange Sept. 6 on Battle Field at Panther Stadium. BSC tied it up 28-28 with 1:14 left before LaGrange went on to win in the second possession of the overtime period. Senior tailback Joe Moultrie led with 211 rushing yards, while sophomore tailback Samir Usman had two touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Austin Martin was 14-31 for 270 yards and one touchdown. On defense, seniors LaPrintence Gunn and Austin Hansard and sophomore Sidarius Gotell led with eight tackles apiece.

The Hawks are also 0-1 going into this week's game after losing to Louisiana College on the road on a last-second touchdown, 49-42. Quarterback Taylor Hughes recorded 275 yards and two touchdowns, going 18-27, and running back John Iwaniec ran in two touchdowns. Defensive back Anthony White led the defense with 10 tackles.
