BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Looking to bounce back from an 0-3 start, the Birmingham-Southern football team opens Southern Athletic Association play this Saturday on the road, traveling to Conway, Ark., to face Hendrix College at 1 p.m.
Hendrix is 2-0 after opening the season with wins against Westminster and Bacone; the Warriors were off last week. Hendrix is in its second season of football after a 52-year hiatus. BSC won last year's meeting in Birmingham, 35-32.
The Panthers' leading scorer is sophomore tailback Samir Usman, who has three touchdowns on 44 carries with 109 yards. Senior wide receiver Michael Cowan has two touchdowns and 180 yards. Sophomore Austin Martin and freshman Mickey Courtney have split time at quarterback; Martin has 417 yards and two touchdowns, while Courtney has 128 yards and one touchdown.
Sophomore quarterback Seth Peters leads the Warriors with three touchdowns and 630 yards, while sophomore running back Dayton Winn also has three touchdowns with 280 yards rushing. Sophomore defensive back Matt Ramirez leads the Hendrix defensive effort with 22 tackles (12 solo) and two interceptions.
