BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Sophomore wide receiver Jamal Watkins has been named the Southern Athletic Association Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced today.
Watkins, from Hampton, Ga., had a breakout game against Huntingdon on Saturday night, scoring three touchdowns to help BSC defeat the Hawks, 35-34. His first score was a 37-yard catch in the second quarter, before he produced twice on special teams in the fourth quarter. He started with a 92-yard kickoff return to open the period. After Huntingdon tied things up 28-28 with under a minute left, Watkins brought the ensuing kickoff back to the end zone again, this time running 93 yards to do so and put BSC back in the lead. He finished with a game-high 289 all-purpose yards.
