BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern football team saw four named to Southern Athletic Association All-Conference teams Tuesday. Junior Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC) was named SAA Special Teams Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.  He finished the season 445 kick return yards, averaging 107.6 per game, and was one of the league's leading scorers among non-kickers.

His most memorable kick return of the year was a 95-yard sprint to the endzone against Centre College that sparked the Panthers rally.

Senior tailback Samir Usman (Smyrna, Ga./McCallie School) earned Second-Team All-SAA honors for the second straight year. Usman led all BSC running backs with 473 yards on 122 carries.  He recorded four touchdowns and averaged 3.9 yards per carry.

Watkins was named honorable mention along with freshmen Ernest Tiller (Grayson, Ga./Grayson HS) and Ivan Villageois (Montgomery, Ala./Saint James HS).

One of the primary receivers this past season, Watkins earned 569 total yards, averaging 11.6 per catch.  His seven receiving touchdowns tied him for seventh in the league. He also recorded the longest touchdown catch of any SAA player with a 79-yarder against Millsaps (Oct. 15).

Both Tiller and Villageois played in all 10 games.  Villageois was fourth on the team in total tackles.
