CONWAY, Ark. – The Birmingham-Southern College football team fell 42-24 on the road at Hendrix College Saturday afternoon in Southern Athletic Association play. BSC (1-4, 0-3 SAA) stifled the Warriors scoring in the final three quarters, but could not overcome a slow start.
Trevor Oakes (Somerville, Ala./Hartselle HS) set three single-game passing records on the day. He threw 447 total yards off 28 completions from 46 attempts. He finished with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Three of his receivers finished with 100+ yard days of their own.
Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC) led the pack with 128 yards. Buddy Dowd (Dothan, Ala./Northview HS) and Kerrigan Pennington (Wagerville, Ala./Washington County HS) earned 111 and 107 yards, respectively.
Ryder Andrews (Homewood, Ala./Homewood HS) tied a career-best with three of his five punts landing inside the 20. He averaged 37.6 yards per punt, and 50 yards per kickoff. He was also a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals and 1-for-1 on extra points.
Sy Butler (Childersburg, Ala./Childersburg HS) led the defense. He finished with a team-high nine tackles, six solo. Two of his tackles were for a total loss of nine yards including a sack.
BSC returns home on Saturday, Oct. 14 against Sewanee. It will be homecoming weekend for the Panthers as the 2017 BSC Hall of Fame class will be honored, as well as, the homecoming court and a celebration of 10 years of BSC football.
