Cameron O’Neal joined the Birmingham-Southern football coaching staff in July of 2016.
He came to the Panthers after three years as a defensive graduate assistant at the University of North Carolina (2013-15) where he assisted with the linebackers and defensive backs. In 2015, North Carolina won a coastal division championship and played in the ACC Championship game against Clemson. O’Neal also has experience at the high school level. He coached corners and helped coordinate an Alabama 5A defense to the state championship game while with Saraland High School.
Notable national rankings #12 in NCAA Interceptions, #15 NCAA Passing Efficiency, #19 NCAA Passing Yards Per Completion, #21 NCAA Passing yards allowed. Notable players coached O’Neal include: defensive backs Timothy Scott (Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns and Washington Redskins), Desmond Lawrence (Detroit Lions), and Brian Walker (Winnipeg Blue Bombers); and linebackers Shakeel Rashad (Houston Texans), and Jeff Schoettmer (New Orleans Saints).
O’Neal was a four-year letter winner at the University of Southern Mississippi. He helped lead Southern Miss to a 12-2 record and Conference USA Championship in 2011. Voted all-time team captain by his peers, he earned starts at safety and nickle.
