Panthers come up short, 69-59, to Colonels
DANVILLE, Ky. – The Birmingham-Southern (7-5) Panthers completed their first SCAC road trip of the season today, falling to the defending-SCAC Champion Centre College Colonels, 69-59.
The Panthers came out cold, falling behind the Colonels by as many as 14 points before they gained their composure and began chipping into the Centre lead. The final four minutes of the half saw the Panthers cut the lead down to five. The Colonels took a 29-24 lead into the break.
BSC had possession at the beginning of the half and #Michael Rebarchak# was able to trim the Centre lead down to three on a layup. Just when it seemed the Panthers might be able to make a game of things, the Colonels surged ahead with eight straight points and the game was never as close again.
The Panthers were led by #Aaron Parr# with a game-high 21 points. No other Panther scored more than nine points. Centre, on the other hand, had four players in double-figures, led by Danny Noll with 16. The Panthers were out-rebounded 38-24 by the Colonels, giving Centre 13 of their misses back to them.
BSC shot 38-percent from the floor, going 23-of-60; 29-percent from three (5-of-17); and 67-percent from the charity stripe (8-of-12). The Colonels posted 46-percent from the floor, 32 from behind the arc, and 72-percent from the line.
The Panthers will return to the Hilltop Hardwood next weekend for a conference double-header with Trinity University on Friday for a 6:00 p.m. tip, and then a Sunday afternoon matchup with Southwestern University at 4:00 p.m.
