BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men’s basketball team played an inter-squad scrimmage tonight in front of well-over 100 boosters and family members tonight at Bill Battle Coliseum. The game was the highlight of this year’s Black-Tie Club Pre-Season Dinner hosted by BSC Basketball.
Black-Tie members were invited to dine with the coaches and support staff to hear from them about the upcoming season. Coach Mitch Cole has high hopes for this season’s team. “After last season’s largely freshman team posted a 13-12 record, we are expecting a lot more from this year’s group. They have gained in experience and matured a great deal since the end of last year and we are looking to build upon that early success in our second year in Division III.”
After the dinner, the group assembled at the court for the Gold and Black scrimmage. Sophomore guard, and last season’s leading scorer, Aaron Parr led all scorers with 28 points, going 7-for-9 from behind the new three-point line. Sophomore forward Dominic Whicher, new to this year’s team, netted 25 on his end with five three’s of his own. Sophomore guard Michael Rebarchak had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Freshmen Mikey Kline and Tyler Cerone also scored in double-digits with 13 and 12 points respectively.
The Panthers will crank up the 2008-09 season on November 15th and 16th for the 2008 BSC Black-Tie Club Classic at Bill Battle Coliseum. BSC will open the Classic with the University of Dallas at 6:00 p.m. on the 15th, with the second game between Sewanee and Huntingdon following at 8:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon the classic will close with Sewanee taking on Dallas at noon followed by the Panthers and Huntingdon at 2:00 p.m.
