Panthers set to host Emory Friday night at The Battle

Gameday Program | Live Stats

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern (2-1) men’s basketball team will try to get back on the winning track tomorrow when they host the Emory University (0-1) Eagles at 7:00 p.m. at Bill Battle Coliseum.  The Panthers are coming off a 65-59 loss at LaGrange College on Wednesday.  They played the game without SCAC Player of the Week Aaron Parr, the Panthers’ point guard and leading scorer.

Parr sprained his ankle late in the 95-82 win over Huntingdon College in the final game of the Black-Tie Club Classic on Sunday.  He will likely return to the lineup for the game with the Eagles.  Even without Parr, the Panthers battled fiercely in the game at LaGrange.  BSC was unable to pull off a brilliant last-minute comeback, shrinking the LC advantage from 26 with 14 minutes to four with under a minute.

The Panthers will have to relocate their shooting if they want to keep their home winning streak alive.  They shot just 41-percent on the night at LaGrange, including an abysmal 0-12 from three.

The Eagles are coming into the Battle off a loss of their own, falling 89-81 at SCAC-colleague Oglethorpe University in Atlanta.  Junior Anthony Fernandez posted 28 points and 16 rebounds in the loss.  Sophomore Marcus Patterson added 18 points, and Dan Curtin had 13 on the night.  Oglethorpe had to hit a pair of clutch free throws to send the game into overtime, but then the Eagles missed their first six shots in the overtime to give the ‘Petrels an insurmountable cushion.

Both teams will undoubtedly be hungry to get back on the court and put those losses behind them.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Bill Battle Coliseum.  Live Stats will be available at www.BSCsports.com.
